Applications
Water is indispensable in almost every area of life and work – and deserves the highest quality. The products and systems from WM aquatec ensure reliable water hygiene wherever people, technology or processes depend on clean water.
Drinking Water
Drinking water is/must be supplied by public waterworks/water suppliers in a quality such that its consumption or use does not harm human health, particularly from pathogens. Nevertheless, under unfavorable conditions in drinking water systems, pathogenic microorganisms such as Legionella can multiply, posing a significant risk to human health. In drinking water systems, these pathogens embed themselves in a so-called biofilm, which serves as a food source and protects them from external influences. This leads to the continuous growth of the biofilm and further multiplication of the pathogens.
Process Water
For process water in industrial plants, especially in product manufacturing, there are increased demands on water quality and thus on water treatment. Whether it's cooling water, boiler feed water, or ultrapure water, we set standards with our hygiene products in these areas too.
Cooling Water
In cooling water, microorganisms can lead to health hazards, unpleasant odors, and biofilm growth. We therefore offer you products to meet the hygienic requirements according to VDI 2047 (ensuring hygienic operation of evaporative cooling systems).
Pipes, Lines, and Tanks
Systems carrying fluid (water) must be cleaned at regular intervals, depending on the application. If cleaning methods (mechanical/chemical) cannot achieve the required microbiological quality, disinfection measures can be promising. An example of this is DVGW Worksheet W 291 "Cleaning and Disinfection of Water Distribution Systems".
Filter
Filters are used primarily in industrial water treatment, but also wherever certain water/fluid parameters must be maintained or changed. Compared to piping systems, filters generally offer a larger volume in relation to the volumetric flow, resulting in lower flow velocities. These and other factors can contribute to filters and their elements becoming fouled over time and microorganisms settling. This can be counteracted either by continuous addition of disinfectants/preservatives or by discontinuous filter disinfection.
Air Conditioning Systems
In buildings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, government and administrative buildings, stables, animal breeding facilities, greenhouses or production facilities, the air is usually treated by ventilation and air-conditioning systems (heating, cooling, humidification and dehumidification, etc.).
In order to comply with the hygiene requirements for indoor air, it is necessary to take hygienic measures that minimize or prevent limit values being exceeded in the air and contamination of the system components. VDI 6022 "Indoor Air Quality and Hygiene Requirements for Indoor Air in Buildings" provides recommendations based on the state of the art.
Fire extinguishing systems
Numerous fire extinguishing systems in buildings (e.g., sprinkler systems, wall hydrant systems) are constantly filled with water and directly connected to the drinking water installation. Stagnation of the extinguishing water can lead to a proliferation of microorganisms, with the risk of drinking water contamination even when pipe disconnector devices are installed. [...] Due to the water stagnating in the fire extinguishing pipes for decades, for example, a backflow of this stagnant water into the drinking water installation can lead to significant, especially microbiological, contamination of the drinking water. ¹

Odor Elimination
Odor removal/oxidation can be achieved with chlorine dioxide nebulization. The fine distribution of the chlorine dioxide mixture by means of a nebulizer eliminates odors within a short time with minimal effort.
Emergency showers
Emergency showers in industry are constantly in contact with the water standing in the pipes and are either equipped with tanks (mobile emergency showers) or directly connected to the drinking water installation. The stagnation of the shower water can lead to an increase in microorganisms and thus also pathogens such as legionella in the storage tank (mobile emergency shower) as well as in the pipe installation, whereby there is a risk of contamination of the shower water and the connected drinking water even when pipe disconnectors are installed. A long stagnation period of the water can lead to considerable, especially microbiological, contamination of the drinking water, for example if the stagnating water flows back into the drinking water installation.
Exhaust Air/Deodorization
Malodorous substances in exhaust air systems are usually caused by volatile nitrogen and/or sulfur compounds. These can be successfully broken down by oxidation. Dosing chlorine dioxide into the exhaust air scrubber or introducing it via a nebulization system is suitable for this purpose.
Pool and Swimming Pool Water
Swimming pool water is subject to constant contamination. In particular, the introduction of germs by humans (fecal germs), but also the introduction of germs through the air as well as growing germs and pathogens in swimming pool technology (pipes, lines, filters, pool walls and floors) lead to a continuous deterioration of water quality. In order to guarantee hygienic bathing pleasure, Section 37 (2) of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG of July 20, 2000, last amended on July 18, 2016) states: "Swimming or bathing pool water in commercial establishments, public baths and other facilities not exclusively for private use must be of such a quality that its use does not pose a risk to human health, in particular from pathogens."
Apparatus and Plant Engineering
In apparatus and plant construction, we are a competent partner when it comes to the hygiene of water depots, pipelines, or other components. Whether special systems or series devices, fluid-carrying systems for household applications (e.g., mobile humidifiers) or medical devices such as water-cooled sterilizers – together we will find your solution.
Ponds
Most diseases in pond fish or in aquaculture result from deficits in husbandry. The causes for this are often due to poor water quality. A healthy balance of bioavailable nutrients and bacterial colonies is of great importance here. If these get out of balance, pathogens such as bacteria from the Aeromonas and Pseudomonas groups can suddenly multiply and cause, for example, mouth or fin rot.
Food Production
Thanks to our chlorine dioxide products, the cleaning and disinfection of food processing equipment (tanks, pipes, etc.) can be carried out in a single step. Disinfection takes place during the acidic cleaning of the CIP cleaning process, whereby the chlorine dioxide is gradually and completely broken down into chloride (table salt). A final rinse with, for example, ultrapure water completes the CIP process.
Livestock Farming
Clean and low-germ drinking water is the basis for economical and successful livestock farming. Heavily contaminated drinking water, as well as biofilm growth in the drinking water supply system and the associated uncontrolled proliferation of pathogens, pose a major threat to the entire livestock population. Air and surface disinfection also represent an important measure for restoring hygiene standards in the event of already occurring diseases.
Beverage Dispensing Systems and Coffee Machines
Dispensing systems, water dispensers, and coffee machines are subject to special hygiene regulations due to the provision of food. These are regulated at a European level in ordinances and are examined in detail in industry- and application-specific standards. An example is "DIN 6650-6 – Beverage dispensing systems – Part 6: Requirements for cleaning and disinfection 2014-12," which specifically deals with hygiene, disinfection of the system, maintenance intervals, etc., for dispensing systems.
